Strong acid dissociation

Postby Aditya Desai 1A » Tue Nov 30, 2021 9:43 am

FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CLASS do we say that strong acids dissociate 100% or 99.99%? I saw a question that compared a diagram where everything was dissociated vs everything except for one molecule was dissociated and you were asked what represented HCl in water.

In terms of this class Dr. Lavelle told us to treat strong acids as fully dissociating in water so for the question you encountered for this class you should select the 100% option.

I believe we refer to strong acids as completely (100%) dissociated in water. Because of this 100% dissociation, strong acids do not have Ka values.
