Ka

Postby Tianna Nguyen 1I » Wed Dec 01, 2021 4:00 am

Hi, I don't really understand what Ka is and how the equation works? I think in a lecture Professor said it's a chem14b thing but will we have to know how to calculate it for the exam?

Ka is the vaule of a weak acid. I think all we have to know for chem 14a is that when Ka vaule increases the acidity increases, and pKa vaule decreases. To use Ka to find pKa you take the -log(Ka).

Ka is the acid dissociation constant and it's used to measure the strength of an acid in a solution. The higher the Ka value, the more the acid dissociates. Therefore, the higher the ka value, the stronger the acid. I don't think we have to know how to calculate it, we just have to understand it conceptually.
