pKA Significance

Postby Claire_Sabol_2G » Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:42 pm

What exactly is the pKA value measuring? I understand the relationship between acidity, KA, and pKA value, but I'm just unsure as to what the value of pKA is telling us! Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

pKa is just the strength of an acid. The larger the pKa value, the weaker the acid is. This is why strong acids do not have a pKa value. pKa is just the
-log[Ka] where the Ka value is a constant that measures how much of the compound dissociates in an aqueous solution. Hope that helped clear things up!

Ka, and thus pKa measures the strength of an acid! The larger the value of Ka is, the lower value of pKa is, and the stronger the acid is.

pKa determines how strong or weak an acid is, and is found by finding the negative log of the acid dissociation constant.

pkA is just the strength of an acid I’m pretty sure. Larger number = weaker acid

pKa helps to tell us the relative strength of an acid: The higher the pKa the weaker the acid and vice versa.
