HW Week 2 Question 5 - % protonated formula

Postby Charlize Choo 1G » Wed Feb 01, 2023 11:31 am

In Achieve Week 2 Question 5, it asked us to calculate % protonated. In the solutions, it says % amine protonated=[BH+]/([BH+]+[B]) ×100

Why do we have to add [BH+]+[B] in the denominator? Isn't % protonated usually just [BH+]equilib/[B]initial) ×100 ?

Both ways are right, if you add up equilibrium concentrations of BH+ and B, you will get the initial concentration of B. They are the same thing.
