Electron-donating properties

I do not understand why CH3 has electron donating properties which make acetic acid a weaker acid than formic acid.

CH3 has electron donating properties because when you draw the Lewis diagram for this species you'll see that the carbon has a an unpaired electron that it is ready to donate!
