why do we subtract the pOH from 14 to find the final pH?

pH and pOH are inversely related. The molal ratio of H30+ and -OH in solution is equal to 10^-14.

Also, pOH measures the concentration of OH- in solution. Because we evaluate on a pH scale, you need to subtract it from 14

You can use the formula pH + pOH = 14 for any aqueous solution. The "p" essentially means to take the negative logarithm of a value. To solve for either pH or pOH, plug in the given values to obtain a certain variable.
