When calculating pH do you only ever use the H3O+ concentration or will you ever use OH-?

You can easily solve for each other when you have one concentration or the other.

14 = pH + pOH

Unless, you have a weak acid therefore you have to use the Ka concentration.

pH can also be calculated by this formula: pH = -log[H+]

I think we will mostly be calculating the pH from the hydronium ion concentration. The pOH can then be calculated by subtracted the pH from 14. With the pOH, we can solve backwards for the concentration of hydroxide ions.
