pH scale

This part is a little confusing for me. If, basic solutions have less H3O+ than acids, and the pH log measures the amount of H3O+, then why do the larger numbers (8-14) correspond to bases?

pH = -log10

With this knowledge, the pH of a number like 10-1 (pH = 1) would be lower than the pH of a number like 10-5 (pH = 5).

10-1 is a larger number than 10-5, so the pH scale looks kind of backwards but it actually makes sense!

pH of 8-14 would have an H30+ concentration of (10^-8) mol/L to (10^-14) mol/L. This shows that larger pH numbers mean there are less H30+ due to the negative power of 10.
