1. The molar concentration of HCl in hydrochloric acid is reduced to 12% of its initial value by dilution. What is the difference in the pH values of the two solutions?
Can someone please explain the solution for this question?

In this problem, you are finding the change in pH values so you could set up the equation:
(change in pH) = -log(1) - (-log(.12))

You are using 1 and .12 because the HCl is reduced to only 12% of its initial value.

Hope this helps!
