strong or weak base?
what are qualities you can identify in a base to know if it's very strong or weak?

Strong bases are typically ionic salts containing OH. Do not confuse with molecules containing alcohol groups, which are usually weakly acidic

Strong acids lose H+ easily and have longer, weaker bonds. Also if the resulting anion is stabilized by electron withdrawing atoms which delocalize and stabilize the negative charge, the acid will be stronger.

Additionally, strong acid produces more protons in solution than a weak acid and are almost completely ionized in solution.

A weak base will partially dissociate but a strong base fully dissociates to give ions in a solution. Weak bases also have pH from 7 to 10 and strong ones have pH 10 to 14.

the weaker the bond between the atoms in the acid, the stronger of an acid it is because that means it dissociates easier. If you have a stronger bond between the atoms, you would then have a weaker acid because that acidic compound is less likely to dissociate completely. When looking at the relative strength of an acid , you look at how readily the bond can be broken and it can pronate the solution it is in.

A base in general is a species that can accept a proton to form hydroxide ions. A strong base is one that can readily accept this proton. This means that if you were to have a solution containing a strong base, like NaOH, this species will readily dissociate to form an excess of hydroxide ions. Organic bases, for example, tend to be weaker, meaning that they would not dissociate to produce OH- to the same extent as NaOH.
There are also some basicity periodic trends that may be useful (though we'll learn more about these in ochem):
-basicity increases as you go left on the periodic table (because less electronegative atoms are more willing to pick up protons from other species)
-basicity increases as you go up on the periodic table (because that would mean that the base is less stable than the conjugate acid, favoring conjugate acid formation)

inorganic acids are. often much stronger than organic acids as well. Also there is a helpful table about strong acids and bases in the textbook. I believe it's in fundamentals J

A strong base is a base that is 100% ionized in solution and if it is less than 100% ionized in solution, it is a weak base. All strong bases are OH– compounds.

A strong base completely dissociates in water and there are only a few. A weak base does not completely dissociate in water.

Strong acids and bases will completely dissociate in a solution. They have long, weaker bonds and can easily dissociate to donate protons or accept protons in the solution.

Strong bases are completely ionized in water. They are usually the Alkali metals (oxides and hydroxides). Weak bases are not completely ionized in water and any compound with nitrogen is a weak base.

They can be distinguished by the level that they ionize in water. Strong base tends to be ionized more in water.

I think strong acids and bases generally contain elements from groups 1 and 2 on the periodic table.
