Why doesn't pH have units?

pH is a measure of acidity/basicity. Although you substitute molarity into the equation, it is unitless because it does not refer to a quantity, ie 1 liter of a solution with pH 8 is not more basic than 5 liters of a solution with pH 8. Moreover, it involves logarithms, which do not have units.

pH is a scale. It's logarithmic, so a linear increase in pH is not a linear increase in [H+].
