25 degrees celsius
What's the importance of saying that the solution is at 25 degrees celsius? I've seen it in a lot of problems on calculating pH and I was not sure why it specified that.

Re: 25 degrees celsius
I think it is just a standard temperature, like room temperature. Since extreme temperatures can affect reactions and stuff, it just indicates that it isn't too hot or cold.

Re: 25 degrees celsius
For us right now the 25 degrees celsius is not important, it is just clarifying that the pH is not affected by outside variables like temperature I believe. Hope this helps!

Re: 25 degrees celsius
pH decreases as temperature increases. In pure water at 25 °C, the molar concentrations of [H3O+] and [OH-} are equal (the liquid is electrically neutral overall). Therefore, 25 °C is the only temperature we consider, unless otherwise stated.

Re: 25 degrees celsius
I ignored the temperature when doing the homework problems and it didn't seem to matter so I don't think it's important.

Re: 25 degrees celsius
25 degrees is considered the standard, much like we consider room temperature.

You'll learn more about this topic in Chem 14B when we learn about the effect of temperature on equilibrium. At 25 degrees Celsius, the pH of neutral water is 7. Changing the temperature actually changes the pH at which water is neutral! For now though, assume the temperature is 25 degrees Celsius.
