Positively Charged Acid?

Postby Ashley Hiti 1K » Mon Nov 29, 2021 10:17 am

In the example we did in the 11/29 lecture the third question asked “Is the acid neutral or negatively charged at pH = 6?”

Is there any way for an acid to be positively charged?

The usual behavior of an acid is to lose a proton (H+)
So I don't think it is possible for an acid to be positively charged.

Since acids lose protons, it wouldn't be positively charged. When the pH of the system was less than the pKa, we identified it as neutral because the acid stayed protonated as HA, which was its neutral form.
