The equation for calculating pH is pH = -log[H+]. [H+] is also the same as the [H3O+], which is the hydronium concentration. The equation of pOH is pOH = -log[OH-]. [OH-] is the hydroxide concentration. If you know the pH or pOH and you want to solve for the other, you can subtract the given from 14 to get the other value.

Depending on what is given you can find pH or pOH. The equation pH = -log[H+] is used when given H+ concentration. The equation pOH = -log[OH-] is used when given OH- concentration. When either pH or pOH is found, you can find the other by subtracting by 14.

To calculate pH, we must find the negative log of the hydroonium ion concentration. Then to find pOH, we subtract pH from 14.
