Achieve Wk 10, #5

Postby almaortega » Wed Dec 01, 2021 4:09 pm

Could someone walk me through the process of how to get from M of H+ to M of OH- to pH and pOH. I am struggling to understand what needs to be done, thank you!

M is the same thing as concentration.
pH = -log[H+] (the concentration of H+ - or hydronium H3O+ - ions)
14 = pH + pOH
pOH = -log[OH-]

Just plug in your given values to these equations and use algebra to solve for the unknowns.

[OH-] * [H+] = 10^-14
pH + pOH = 14
pH = -log [H+]
pOH = -log [OH-]

Note that [H+] and [OH-] equals to the concentration of H+ and OH-. You can use information you are given in the questions and plug into these equations to obtain answers you need.
