Calculating pH from Equation with Water

Postby Tiahna Thomas 2C » Sat Dec 04, 2021 7:01 pm

How do you calculate the pH of an acid when you are given it's volume added to the volume of water? For example, given 10ml 15M HBr + 500ml H20, what is the pH of HBr?

You would use the molarity equation M1V1=M2V2 since you know the first molarity and the first and second volume you can find the second Molarity to give you the concentration of the [H3O+]. From there you use the pH = -log ([H3O+])
