Polyprotic Acid Ka

Postby Carlos Gonzales 1H » Sun Dec 03, 2017 11:15 pm

How do we know if a certain acid has more than one Ka? Is it based solely on the available H available to donate?

Yes. Acids have as many Ka values as the H that it has.

Dr. Lavelle said in class today that we do not need to know polyprotic acids so you can omit problems 12.79 and 12.81 in the textbook.

Correct, in class today I said that we are not covering polyprotic acid/base calculations, and therefore omit problems 12.79 and 12.81 in the textbook.

We have, of course, covered polyprotic acids (H2SO4, etc.).
