Coordination number

In section our TA talked about coordination number, what does this have to do with oxidation number or the central metal

The coordination number refers to the number bonds around the central metal atom.

It is also basically the same as a bond number.

Coordination number, also called Ligancy, the number of atoms, ions, or molecules that a central atom or ion holds
