Polyprotic Acid pH

Postby JChen_2I » Thu Jan 16, 2020 10:24 pm

Is it right to say that the second deprotonations of all polyprotic acids (but sulfuric acid) can be ignored when calculating pH?

In the book problems, they explicitly say to ignore the second deprotonations bc the Ka values are extremely small. Likewise, if it is not explicitly said on a problem, look at the Ka value and determine if there is any significant protonation occurring.
