The CO2 and the H20 react to form H2CO3. H2CO3 is what will remain in the solution which is an acid, making the overall solution acidic. This is how things like soda are carbonated and how acid rain is created with the carbon dioxide and water in the atmosphere.

CO2 reacts with water to make carbonic acid , H2CO3. Carbonic acid is a strong acid, meaning it gives off H+ protons very readily. Carbonic acid will give off an H+ proton, making it HCO3-, which is bicarbonate, a weaker acid than carbonic acid. Once the carbonic acid has given off a proton, it makes the solution acid due to the addition of that proton. It's a multi-step reaction, but the ultimate solution is acidic.

CO2 and H20 mix to make carbonic acid which is H2CO3. H2CO3 can give off protons and become HCO3-, another common acid (bicarbonate).

H2O and CO2 combine to form H2CO3, a weak acid that dissociates into hydrogen ions and bicarbonate ions.
