Weak acid to weak base (salt)

Postby 605956334 » Thu Jan 25, 2024 11:46 pm

OK so one of the questions for the HW says that "HClO is a weak acid and so the salt NaClO acts as a weak base." Can someone explain why this is true?

This is true because the basic ion in NaClO is ClO-. ClO- is the conjugate base of HCLO, sso the salt has to be basic because Na+ is neutral in solution.
