Hi, a salt is a neutral substance that is made from a cation and an anion. So, how I try to identify salts by its formula is by separating the two elements in the compound and determine if it results in a positive ion and a negative ion. It may also be possible that there is a polyatomic ion involved, which you would need to be familiar with to identify or see if they are written in brackets. Hope this helps!
