Equilibria

Postby 406003397 » Thu Mar 14, 2024 1:13 am

How does the presence of a common ion affect the position of an acid-base equilibrium in a solution? For instance, if we add sodium acetate to an acetic acid solution, how does the equilibrium shift?

Hi! I believe the addition of a common ion will cause the concentration of the ions in the equilibrium to increase and because of Le Chatelier's principle, the equilibrium will shift to counteract the increase.
