Acidic Salts
In the course reader it says that acidic salts lower pH and that Cl- does not so would an acidic salt like anilinium chloride still lower pH or no because it has Cl?

Re: Acidic Salts
I believe that anilinium chloride would still lower the pH of a solution because it is still an acidic salt, even with the presence of Cl-.

Re: Acidic Salts
I think it would. When Lavell talked about how Cl- doesn't change pH, I think he referred to how the individual atom doesn't change pH, since if we were to draw out the reaction equation, Cl- would be alone on both sides, and crossed out. Despite this, the structure Cl- is attached to, anilinium chloride, would still change pH, since the molecule would still seek to donate H+ ions.

Re: Acidic Salts
Does this mean that the anions in salts do not affect the pH, only the positively charged cations, since they are the ones who seek to donate H+ ions?
