Re: Salts
Salts will be either basic, acidic, or neutral. They will not be both at the same time.
How basic or acidic is dependent on the relative strengths of the parent acid and base. A salt made from a strong acid and strong base will result in a neutral salt, while a strong acid but weak base will result in a more acidic salt.

Re: Salts
No, salts can only be acidic or basic, or neutral. They can not be two things at the same time, only one. So salts can be acidic but they can not be acidic and basic or any other type of combination.

Re: Salts
Salts can be acidic, basic, or neutral. Whether they are acidic or basic has to do with what direction of the equilibrium it points to. It cannot be on both sides at the same time.

Re: Salts
Salts can only be acidic, basic, or neutral. They aren't like amphoteric that could be a base or an acid depending on the reaction.

Re: Salts
Hello,
Salts can only be acidic, basic, or neutral. They cannot be both at the same time. I think you might be thinking of amphoteric compounds in which those are compounds that can act as an acid or base depending on the situation/type of solution it is placed in. Amphoteric oxides can form salts. When a strong base reacts with a strong acid, a neutral salt is formed. When a strong base reacts with a weak acid, a basic salt is formed. When a strong acid reacts with a weak base, an acidic salt is formed.

No, salts can only be acidic, basic, or neutral. If you find a salt that seems to both be acidic or basic, it might be classified as neutral, but it cannot be classified both as acidic and basic.

Ah, thank you! That made it very clear.

Salts can only be classified as either acidic, basic, or neutral. They cannot be classified as more than one of those.
