Acidity based on electronegativity

Postby Edmond Chu 1C » Mon Nov 29, 2021 1:50 am

Is there a relationship between electronegativity and acidity? If so, what is the relationship?

Hello!!

Electronegativity and acidity are directly proportional to one another such that as the electronegativity of an element increases, its acidity increases.

Like Justin said, as electronegativity increases, acidity increases because the bonds become more polar, the electrons are taken away from H+. This makes it easier to break off.

As electronegativity increases, the acidity increases. So there are directly proportional.

Acidity and electronegativity are directly proportional since a Lewis acid is an electron pair acceptor. So as acidity increases, electronegativity increases as well.

Acidity and Electronegativity are directly proportional. As electronegativity increases so do the acidity.
