Mneumonic for strong bases

Postby Chloe C 2H » Sat Jan 28, 2023 4:15 pm

Does anyone have a mneumonic for memorizing the strong bases?

I am not sure if this is necessarily a mnemonic, but all you need to remember is that the strong bases are the group 1 and 2 hydroxides like LiOH, NaOH, and KOH.

I read this on a post involving MCAT tips.
The post mentioned six strong acids that dissociate completely in solution and should be memorized.

H2SO4 (sulfuric acid), HI (hydroiodic acid), HBr (hydrobromic acid), HNO3 (nitric acid), HCl (hydrochloric acid) and HClO4 (perchloric acid).

The mnemonic is: So I Brought No Clean Clothes.

SO for sulfuric acid
I for HI
Brought for HBr
No for nitric acid
Clean for HCl
Clothes for perchloric acid

Strong bases include all metal cations in group 1, except for Fr, and the heavy group 2 metals, except for Ra.
