The effect of Strong Acid and Bases

Postby 906194926 » Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:04 pm

Why do salts of strong acids and strong bases not affect the pH of a solution?

Salts of strong acids and strong bases do not affect pH because their ions do not react with water. The cations and anions from these salts are spectator ions that do not alter the concentrations, keeping the solution neutral.

because their ions do not hydrolyze in water and therefore do not alter the OH or H concentration. These ions are particularly stable comapred to that of weak base and acid.
