HSO4- and H2PO4- exceptions

Postby Amber Lu 2D » Sat Dec 07, 2024 11:28 pm

should we remember HSO4- and H2PO4- as exceptions to the "conjugate bases of weak acids will raise pH" rule? the textbook says it would make the solution acidic

Hello ! Yep, they’re exceptions because HSO4- and H2PO4- act as acids themselves --> lowers the pH. P much, theyre not "weak enough" to let their conjugate base nature dominate so they make the solution acidic. Hope this helped !
