Achieve 6D question 5
Hey! Does anyone how to solve this problem? The question is to calculate percent protonation, pH, and pOH given that the aqueous solution is .057 M NH3. How would I solve this if I do not know the Ka value?

Look at section 6C & pay attention to tables 6C.1 and 6C.2. They should provide you with the appropriate Ka values.

After finding the corresponding Kb value for NH3 from the table, you could use the equation NH3 + H2O ⇌ NH4+ + OH-. From there, you could use the initial concentration of 0.057 M NH3 and create an ICE table to find the equilibrium concentration of OH-, which can be used to find the pOH and pH. Percent protonation can be found through dividing the equilibrium concentration of the protonated species (NH4+) by the initial concentration of the deprotonated species (NH3) and multiplying by 100.
