Small and positive cations

Postby Olivia Fong 2k » Wed Jan 31, 2024 3:45 pm

Hi! In a salt containing a small and highly positive cation, how many hydronium ions does one cation create in an equilibrium problem? The textbook indicated that each positive cation is surrounded by 6 H2O molecules, so does each cation result in the formation of one hydronium ion or of 6 hydronium ions? Thanks!

Hi! I think in an equilibrium problem with H2O, only one [H3O+] cation is created unless otherwise stated. Hope this helps!
