Composition of Acid Rain

Postby Mikayla_Weinhouse_2F » Mon Dec 04, 2023 11:12 pm

From previous lectures, I understood from Dr. Lavelle that acids (or acidic foods) typically have a sour taste to them. Would this apply to acid rain that if someone were to taste it they would find it to be sour? Also, is carbon dioxide the only the only non-metal oxide that can react with water to form acidic rain or does it apply to all non-metal oxides?

Hi, I would assume this would likely be the case, though it would also likely be harmful to ingest. Not all non-metal oxides would have the same reaction with water, as some are acidic, basic, and atmospheric acids. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide can also react with water.
