I don't think you need to know anything specifically about acid rain just the concepts involved in that example from the book regarding the reaction of carbonic acid (or a similar strong acid) and water.

In lecture, Lavelle recommended going through the acid rain problems in the textbook so I think we should be familiar with the biological applications of what we learned in the context of acid rain and air pollution.

I think that acid rain will probably just be used as the background to a question on the final (maybe a acid/base pH thing or whatever), but it's more essential to be aware of it and understand how to calculate pKa in context.

I think Pages 490-491 in the 7th Edition would have some problems below the concepts and explanation.

In the syllabus it says we should be able to "explain why rain can be acidic and discuss possible options to reduce 'acid rain'."
