Clean Coal vs Dirty Coal?

can someone explain the difference between clean coal and dirty coal? I remember it being explained in the lecture in terms of Carbon of Sulfur dominant, but I don't remember which was clean and which was dirty.

Clean coal has higher carbon content and lower sulfur content, so it produces less SO2 on burning whereas dirty coal has higher sulfur content and lower carbon content.

Clean coal is the one with low sulfur content and high carbon content, and dirty coal has a higher sulfur content. A good way to remember is that sulfur contributes to acid rain, so having less sulfur means "cleaner" emissions.

The "clean"-ness of a coal refers to how high the carbon content is compared to sulfur content. If the coal has a really high carbon content and very low sulfur content, than it is "clean", whereas if it has a high sulfur content, then it is dirty coal

The difference between clean coal and dirty coal is the amount of sulfur content in the coal. When coal burns it releases sulfur dioxide which can react with water vapor to for acid rain. So, clean coal attepts do decrease the sulfur content of the coal to prevent such emissions.

I think it's based on the sulfur content. The higher the sulfur content of the coal, the "dirtier" it is because, when burned, it'll react with the air to create acid rain.

Coal is graded based on carbon-noncarbon content. Anthracite coal is considered "Clean" and has 92-98% Carbon content, whereas bituminous, sub-bituminous, and lignite coal have increasingly high impurity. Burning lower C-content coals (like lignite) would release a LOT of non-carbon into the air, including sulfur, which makes it "dirty".
