Acid Rain & Solutions

Postby Maya Gollamudi 1G » Sat Dec 07, 2019 12:22 pm

Why does rain become acidic and what are some solutions to lessening the acidity?

Rain can become acidic because it is water, H2O, and if it reacts with sulfur dioxide SO2, or carbon dioxide CO2 in the air, then it produces strong acids H2SO3 and H2CO3, respectively.

Some solutions to reducing the acidity of the rain could include producing less excess carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere so that these gases do not react with the H2O to form acids. I'm not sure if that answers your question about "lessening the acidity," though.

Can NO2 also react with water to form HNO2 and HNO3?

For reducing maybe using environmentally friendly fuels( energy as a fuel). Plant more trees
