To what extent do we need to have an understanding of acid rain? Do we need to know the chemical formula

I think we just have to know that nitrogen and sulfur oxides in the air are responsible for making the rain water acidic. Prof Lavelle didn't mention anything other than that

He also said we should do acid rain problems from the textbook

The formula in the textbook was discussed in the box that was on the syllabus.

I think we were just supposed to know the formulas for acid rain. There are two formulas invovlving SO3 and CO3 but both didn't end up showing up on the test.

Is this still true? Do we need to know how to calculate with acid rain formulas for the final?
