Do we need to understand this concept completely for the final exam?

I think it's important to understand how acid rain is formed and what kind of impact it can have on the environment

I believe Professor Lavelle used it as an example for acids and their properties, but just keep in mind that it is formed when water and carbon dioxide react with one another to form carbonic acid. This could also go with sulfur dioxide reacting with water to form sulfuric acid and nitrogen dioxide reacting with water to form nitric and nitrous acid.

Does anyone know if the same applies to this year's chem 14a final--if we need to completely understand these concepts? thanks

Im assuming that it is important to know the basics that acids can dissolve in water to make acid rain-- specifically know the common one of CO2 which forms carbonic acid (H2CO3)

Adding on, Professor Lavelle's Acid and Base Structures and Properties unit outline specifies you should know why rain can be acidic and discuss possible options to reduce 'acid rain'.
