Death in biological systems.

Postby Anisa Subbiah 14B 1L » Tue Jan 25, 2022 1:31 pm

I saw in the syllabus for Acids and Bases that we had to be able to calculate pH in biological contexts, and an example was 'death in biological systems.' Are there any examples of this in the textbook that I am missing? Or was it mentioned in lecture? Would Acid Rain affecting aquatic eco-systems be an example?
Thank you!

Hi! From what I remember, I don't recall any specific examples about death in biological systems regarding acids and bases. However, I would assume that we would have to calculate pH/pOH in a biological setting, and we would conclude that an extremely low pH or a pH that differs significantly from what an environment is used to could be detrimental to the life around it. Hope this helps!
