When can I just use the initial moles when using an icebox table instead of the initial concentration?

Hi there! I do not think there is ever a time when you use initial moles instead of initial concentration for an ice box question. The i in ice box stands for initial molarity/concentration, and there hasn't been an example question in lecture that has used initial moles instead of concentration/molarity. I hope that helps!

Doesn't initial moles only factor into the ICE chart by influencing the amount of change, x? For example, if a reactant started initially with three moles, the change would be -3x instead of simply -x.

I don't think you ever use initial moles instead of initial concentration. However, you can use the moles to find the initial concentration since concentration=moles/volume (C= n/V)
