Using mmols

Can we solve a problem using an ICE chart and millimols when trying to find the change in pH of a buffer solution after adding a strong acid or base? For example, problem 13.11 that asks you to find the new pH after adding 20 mL of 0.100 M HNO3 to a buffer solution of 100 mL of 0.100M CH3COOH AND 100 mL of 0.100M NaCH3CO2. This method wasn't discussed in class but I was wondering if I would be marked wrong for using a different method to solve.

I think you can use mmol in an ice chart as long as the volume is in ml. At the end when you convert to molarity and divide the mmol by ml the mili will cancel out and you'll be left with just mol/L which is molarity.
