shifting equilibrium

How do you know which way the equilibrium will shift?

Equilibrium will shift to reduce the strain on a system. There are a lot of factors that go into this, and you can review them by looking over Le Chatelier's Principle: https://opentextbc.ca/introductorychemi ... inciple-2/

Essentially, if something is being taken away or decreased on the product side, the equilibrium will shift right, and if something is being added, the equilibrium shifts left. If something is being taken from the reactants, the equilibrium will shift left, and vice versa if added.
