Is the Heisenberg-Hasselback equation just a shortcut?

Yes, it it pretty much a shortcut to determine the pH. If you are given the values necessary to plug into the equation, there is much less work involved and you can avoid the ICE tables.

Do we use the Heisenberg-Hasselbach equation only when we are given a buffer solution problem? Or does it work when you just have all the information to plug in?
