A titration is what is done in lab when you are trying to determine the concentration of an unknown acid or base. You titrate an acid with a base, or vice versa.
Let's look at titrating an acid with a base. That means you have the acid in the beaker and the base in the pipet. You don't know the concentration of the acid, however you know its volume (how much you put in the beaker). To determine its concentration, you use a base whose concentration you know. You keep adding base to the acid until the solution changes color to indicate it has reached the endpoint. At this moment, you can determine how much base you have added. Using the equation M(acid)V(acid) = M(base)V(base) you can use the titration to find the concentration of the unknown acid.
