heat curve slope question

Postby samanthalee14adis1G » Mon Jan 25, 2016 8:41 pm

on the heat curve, what dictates the slope of solid, liquid and vapor and why does the solid and vapor portions of the graph on page 27 of the course reader have a steeper slope than that of the liquid portion?

Hi the slope of the heating curve for a particular phase is determined by 1/C where C is the heat capacity of that particular phase. Between phases the curve is horizontal and has 0 slope.
