Water Phase Changes

Postby Patrick Wilson 2B » Sat Jan 14, 2017 4:41 pm

Is condensation water going through two phase changes one from liquid to vapor (vaporization) and then from a vapor back to a liquid on the outside of the container? Does this phase change occur because of the heat outside the environment making it endothermic?

Hi Patrick,

Condensation is one phase change (vapor to liquid). This phase change occurs because energy (or heat) is being released from the container (the system) to its surroundings; it is exothermic not endothermic.

I hope that helps!
