Why does the temperature stay the same during phase changes?

Temperature stays the same during phase changes, such as melting and vaporization, because all energy added is being used to break up the bonds rather increasing temperature.

The energy used to otherwise increase the temperature (specific heat) is instead used to change phases (heat of fusion). Once the temperature for the boiling point or melting point is reached, the energy that would have raised the temperature goes into changing the phase.

This is because the energy being supplied in the form of heat disrupts the INTERmolecular forces that hold the liquid or solid together. Nothing is happening intramolecularly.

In a simple way, since the melting process requires a large amount of energy, the temperature change when melting is not significant.

Just want to add something: in physics, we divide matters into crystals and non-crystal(amorphous matters) When crystals are melting, the temperature does not change. However, when non-crystals are melting, the temperature keeps going up
