Heat capacities

Postby Tiffany Cao 1D » Mon Jan 22, 2018 10:40 pm

What if you were given the specific heating capacity which is measured in J/g*C, but asked to find final temperature in K. Are Celsius and Kelvin used interchangeably in this case?

Celsius and Kelvin can be used interchangeably in this case because the degree change in Celsius is equivalent to the degree change in Kelvin.

if it's calculating temperature change, then the difference will be the same whether it's in kelvin or celcius

Degrees celsius and Kelvin cannot be used interchangeably. One unit of each is indeed equal, but as for the numerical value associated with a temperature, Kelvin is equal to # degrees celsius + 273.15

In this case, J/g*C is the same as J/g*K

You use the temperature of whichever unit is given in that constant but I believe if it is a delta T then you can use them interchangeably.
