Temperature vs. heat vs. energy

Temperature vs. heat vs. energy
I get that temperature and heat are different things but how they are related. For example, does an increase in temperature always lead to an increase in heat content (or the other way around). Also is energy just another term for heat content?

Temperature is the measure of the average kinetic energy of a substance, whereas heat is thermal energy transferred between substances of different temperatures. I believe that a transfer of heat would always lead to an increase in temperature. Since both energy (specifically thermal energy) and heat are measured in joules, I think they can be used interchangeably.

Heat (q) is a measure of thermal energy transferred. Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of atoms or molecules.
