You have many different ways to find the solution to a problem! (you can go straight up the mountain, or you can zig zag all around it until you get to the top)

For enthalpies, we can use in-between reaction enthalpies. for example: if we do not know A->C, but we do know A->B and then B->C. which would give us A->C

For state properties, its value is not dependent on the path taken to obtain state (such as altitude, heat, enthalpy). For example, people can hike different paths and start and end at the same altitude. This shows that altitude is a state function because it only depends on the initial and final states. However, since the groups did different amounts of work, work is a path function.
