Different enthalpy calculation methods

Postby 105169446 » Sun Jan 27, 2019 11:20 pm

Are there specific cases in which we should use one of the three methods over the others to calculate delta H?

I think it depends on what information we are given for the calculation. If we are given something with a step by step enthalpy for each step, we could use Hess's method, but if we aren't given the enthalpies for each step of the total reaction then we might decide on using the bond enthalpies to sum it (though less accurate). We should try to do it in what would be the most accurate.

There will usually be one clear method to used based on the information provided by the problem. If Hess's method can be used, it is the most accurate method.
